The Pivot Team

Daniel K. Blecher, CMT, CIMA

Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager

Dan is the founder of Pivot Investment Planning, serving as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager (PM). Before establishing Pivot, he served as a vetted and approved PM managing portfolios for a Merrill Lynch team with $1.1 Billion under management. He holds two esteemed industry credentials; The Chartered Market Technician® and the Certified Investment Management Analyst®, and received his MBA with a concentration in finance.

Before moving into the private client channel, Dan spent eight years in energy trading and risk management, beginning a strong knowledge base and experience in how markets function.

Dan founded Pivot with a key differentiator – the belief that incorporating disciplined market timing as a component of portfolio strategy can help safeguard clients’ investments. Breaking away from the industry mantras of “don’t time the market”, and “just ride it out”, Dan believes these ideas are just not good enough. The name “Pivot” encapsulates the distinct difference and approach to how the firm manages money. “Investment Planning” in that order is an important message: Dan believes that managing money consistently and well is the most important thing we do for our clients. Understanding clients’ financial situations and having a financial plan are clearly necessary and important, but Dan is recognizing an industry trend that seems to use Financial Planning as a veiled excuse for mediocre money management, excessive fees and a false sense of security.

Throughout his career, Dan has developed and honed strategies centered around risk management and seizing opportunities amid market volatility. Recognizing that markets move faster than ever, he believes being nimble and responsive and having the skill and experience to do so are paramount. Strong opinions and conviction are necessary but equally important is being ready to Pivot as information changes. (Please note this does NOT mean common perceptions like frequently getting “in and out” of the market, day trading or looking to make frequent wholesale changes. The approach at Pivot is most often about fine tuning and finesse as conditions change, but also being ready for more sizable adjustments in extreme times). With over 20 years of experience, Dan is battle-tested having navigated clients through both prosperous economic times and deep recessions.

Outside his professional endeavors, Dan and his family dedicate their time and focus on Special Needs causes in the community.

Sally N. Blecher

Chief Operating Officer

As one of the founders of Pivot, Sally brings a unique blend of experience and skills to the firm.

After graduating from TCU with a degree in Social Work, she began her career at Big Brothers and Sisters. She spent 4 years advising families, volunteers and children with the responsibility of matching “Littles” with “Bigs”.

Sally and her husband, Dan went on to raise a family with 3 daughters who are now 25, 23, and 14. After the early years of motherhood, Sally missed having a professional career. She started a consulting company and still works with families who are trying to navigate their way through the challenges of raising children with Special Needs. With a passion for real estate, she went on to become a successful real estate agent. Once Pivot was being established, Sally took all her experience to focus on starting the firm.

Now serving as COO of Pivot Investment Planning, Sally plays a key role in operations and management of the firm. With her experience working with people and tendency for paying attention to details, she is central to making sure Pivot is operating efficiently.

Outside the office, Sally enjoys playing tennis, loves spending time with her family, her dogs “Lark and Wren”, traveling, and volunteering her time to Special Needs causes.
